Adjumani-Potholes are eating up roads in Adjumani Town forcing the authorities to consider removing tarmac for easy management of the roads.
The most affected streets are Mangi, Wani and illa roads which are part of the 2.7 kilometer tarmac road network in Adjumani town. This is the only tarmac road in the district.
Authorities attribute the delay in works due to late disbursement of funds from central government.
Tandrupasi Patrick Adjumani Town council LC III chairman said they intend to remove parts of the tarmacs where potholes have eaten up the roads to lessen management cost.

”Others have got their money but ours is being again pushed for the next financial year,” Tandrupasi said.
Tandrupasi said once they receive the money they hope it will supplement on the local revenues to improve conditions on the roads.
In the financial year 2016/2017 government earmarked Shillings 400 million for upgrading and opening up more roads within the Town council but it has since been deferred for the next financial year.
Resident often attributes the runaway accident cases within the town to the appalling conditions on the roads as motorist prefers riding on the pavements. The roads have deep gulley.

Isaac Anyovi said authorities have been filling the potholes but it quickly gets washed away by rain and doubts quality of work done on the roads.
“The roads are bad as you can see, but who cares, they know and pass here every day,” Anyovi added.
Paul Anyama Adjumani town council Engineer said the road have worn out quickly due heavy load truck which have hitherto been many in town previously.
Anyama said the road designs are single seal which cannot bear the increased traffic and heavy load trucks hence wearing out quickly.
“Illa road for example was constructed in 2013, but it was just surface dressing which cannot withstand heavy trucks,” Anyama said.
Adjumani Town planned to upgrade only 0.5 Kilometers of road within the town council this financial year out of 36 kilometer total road network within town council using local revenue.
